HIndu woman raped on her way back from Durga Puja in Bangladesh
Five people, including a union parishad member, were sent to jail over the incident on Tuesday
A woman was reportedly raped and sexually assaulted on her way back home from visiting Durga puja mandaps in Bagerhat Sadar upazila on Monday night.
Five people, including a union parishad member, were sent to jail over the incident on Tuesday.
Police on Tuesday arrested union parishad member Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, 35, for allegedly raping the woman, and Bikash Mridha, 19, Sukanta Sarkar, 32, Bidhan Biswas, 28, and Md Sohel Fakir, 23, for allegedly sexually assaulting her.

Bagerhat Sadar Model police arrested them from different areas, including Bakpura and Haderhat of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila.
The arrestee Sheikh Mizanur Rahman is a member of ward number-9 of Baruipara union in Bagerhat Sadar upazila, said Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy.
The victim filed a case naming five people earlier in the day in which she said that on Monday night as she was returning after visiting puja mandaps at around 10pm, UP member Mizanur Rahman, asked her what she was doing out late at night. He then took her behind a building of the Bakpura union land office where he raped her.
He left the victim at Chintirkhor area at around 11:45pm. The woman started walking back home but at around 12:00pm, Bikash, Sukanta, Bidhan and Mohammed Sohel and a few others molested her at Haderhat Bazar.
"After the filing of the case, we have completed a medical examination of the girl and we have arrested UP member Mizanur Rahman on charges of rape and four others on charges of molesting the girl. The arrestees have been handed over to court after preliminary interrogation," Pankaj Chandra Roy said.
